Whumptober 2023 Day 11: Animal Trap/Captivity/No one will find you
“Cmon, cmon, cmon,” he urges it, heart drumming and sweat on his brow and he spins around, twisting on his heel when the leaves near his head reach out and brush his skin. Wide eyed and spluttering, he sticks his phone out like a weapon, hand shuddering and half blinking screen providing less light that a match. He squares his trembling body and pulls in a breath, ready to scream or swear to scare off whatever is approaching him.
A little squirrel, chittering and happy with a nut looking thing it’s in mouth, pops out of the bushes and stares at the light with its beady eyes, tilting its head with a chirp. Reigen stares back for second, body awash with adrenaline, before slumping his shoulders and giving a shaky laugh.
“Just a squirrel,” he chuckles, feeling like a typical movie protagonist, and shakes his head. “Just a damn squirrel.”

In typical Reigen fashion, the way home after after a job takes a dangerous, agonizing turn, and he finds that he is completely alone as he tries to scramble for help in the dead of night.

Lucas let out a sound that was half sob, half hysterical laugh. He backed up until his spine hit the bedroom wall, sliding down slightly as if his legs could no longer support his weight. He looked at Buck like he was looking at a dead man.
"Evan," Lucas said, his voice dropping to a devastated, trembling whisper. "I should have told you. I swear to god, I should have told you before we even left the bar, but I didn't think... I've never had a condom break on me. Never. I am so careful. I am so, so careful."
"Told me what?" Buck asked. His voice didn't sound like his own.
Lucas closed his eyes, a tear escaping and tracking down his pale cheek. He swallowed hard, and then he looked Buck dead in the eye.
"I'm HIV positive."
