Fingon spread his arms wide so that Maedhros could see his soiled robe, the red soaking the dark blue so that it was nearly black. “Yes, indeed, this is the look of someone who forces you to do a thing against your will.”

It was translated, for her kinsman Elrond Half-elven, by Bilbo Baggins who brought his own Hobbitish misinterpretations of Noldorin custom to the text. So when the stories said that she was not wholly unwilling, while they were not wrong, they were rather missing the point.
