Summary
Clorinde has heard it said that in Fontaine, rainwater washes away the people’s sins.
Three years ago, Champion Duelist Clorinde faced Callas Caspar in a trial by combat and dealt the killing blow. In the years that follow, wracked with guilt, she's forced to watch as her friendship with Navia slowly falls to pieces in her hands.
Three years later, it seems like Navia has moved on. Clorinde tries and fails to do the same.
But fate, as it happens, has an entirely different idea in mind.

The world is a place of many variables.
Sandrone has learned this lesson many times over. There is no predicting who she will lose next, even when people swear to her a hundred, a thousand times over that they will stay, because— when all is said and done— human minds are fickle, easily swayed things she can never hope to understand.
“Things are changing in Teyvat,” she murmurs into Columbina’s hair. “And you know I don’t like abrupt changes.”
Things in the palace grow tense after Rosalyne’s sudden passing, and a sudden distance befalls the two.
It takes a funeral for Columbina to come and face her once more.

It was reassurance, that indeed, she wouldn't lose someone she cared about again; that Columbina was safe and sound by her side.

The taller woman tried to make the skinship last as long as possible, but eventually slid her hand down far enough so that their palms were touching. Carlotta was wearing gloves. It provided a weird sensation where their hands met. There was no warmth shared when they began to dance, rather, a somewhat awkward silence loomed above the two girls. There was quite a thick crowd, pairs dancing around each other and swaying to the ballroom music. Some, unusually close, others looking disinterested in their dancing partner.The two girls were somewhere on that spectrum, too. Sandrone forces herself to take a deep breath. She feels her eyebrow twitch. The singing continues, the same melody, over and over and over again. She stands up, a couple of screws clattering to the ground, and strides over to the entrance, throwing the doors open. “Columbina!”
The Damselette trails off in her singing, placid expression completely unperturbed. Sandrone scowls down at the Damselette. Something about her practiced aloofness makes Sandrone want to rip her calm, serene visage to pieces.
“Shut,” Sandrone hisses, “the fuck up. Some of us have work to do.”
“Sandrone,” the Damselette says, her voice like the murmur of the wind. “I didn't mean to disturb you.”

“Yae Miko.” (Miko hates the way she straightens her back at the sound of her name, hates the way her ears twitch at the words.)
The Shogun’s face reveals nothing, save for a hint of shame, but at herself, not the puppet. “The experiment failed. My attempt at stopping erosion has failed.”
Were it someone else, they would have attributed the clench of Ei’s fists to disappointment, to anger, but Miko knows better.
Erosion is a terrible thing, capable of breaking gods. And what is a god if they can be broken? (Miko thinks of a younger Ei, eyes still somewhat bright, hands clutching at bloodstained ribbons as her sister dies in front of her.)
